Stop to Malaria: prevention and care for Bossemptelé children

The project “Stop to Malaria: prevention and care for Bossemptelé children” was concluded in September 2017. The project was implemented in a very challenging context: in Central African Republic, poverty and underdevelopment coexist with civil war since 2013. The initiative responded the need of care coming from local population and aimed at contrasting endemic malaria, which is one of the main reason of death especially among children.

Activites were conducted in Bossemptelé, in Oham-Pendé Region. Salute e Sviluppo, in partnership with John Paul II Hospital, started diagnosis and treatment of malaria cases. Insecticide impregnated mosquito nets were distributed and population sensitized with regard to ways of transmission, early detection of symptoms and precautions.

The impact of the project, both on people and on the area, is significant and communities have responded positively to all sensitization and education activities aiming at improving their practices and behaviour towards the disease. 4313 people were assisted and treated. 500 mosquito nets were distributed, especially among most vulnerable people.

RCA Health Ministry welcomed with enthusiasm the initiative and contributed by donating drugs and reagents.

We thank Waldensian Church for having funded this crucial intervention
