RENOVATION OF GBODJE HEALTH CENTRE COMPLETED

Over the past six months, we have kept you constantly updated on developments in the ‘Interior and exterior renovation of the Gbodjè health centre’ project, which has now come to an end.

We are in the economic capital of Benin, Cotonou, a city that – despite representing the heart of the country’s business – sadly continues to be characterised by severe poverty, as does the entire nation. It is therefore essential to support all those activities that aim to improve services for the well-being of citizens, especially those in the most fragile socio-economic conditions.

The Camillian Province of Benin Togo has made this a mission since its foundation, taking concrete action to stand by those who need it most. It was precisely from them that we received this request for funding for the renovation of the Gbodjè Health Centre: a health centre – founded by the Camillians themselves – that takes care of and supports precisely the most destitute.

We at Salute e Sviluppo welcomed the project with enthusiasm and are very happy to be able to announce its many achievements: no less than two observation rooms, a sampling room, a new shower room and a small emergency room have been built. In addition, the drug distribution room, the laboratory and a waiting area for patients were renovated.

In just a few months, we have been able to contribute to a substantial renovation of the facility, which is now ready to welcome all those who need it, and provide medical examinations and appropriate treatment.

OUR SUPPORT FOR SNEHADAAN HOSPITAL

Just a few months ago, we inaugurated two projects in favour of Snehadaan Hospital in India, the first concerning the purchase of an ambulance and dialysis equipment, the second the construction of a rainwater well and the installation of a wastewater treatment plant.

Now, just a few months later, both projects are finished and we at Health and Development are happy to announce that all the goals have been achieved: both the ambulance and the dialysis equipment have been purchased, the well has been built, and the system has been installed and is now up and running.

Thanks to these interventions, Snehadaan Hospital will be able to grow and be even more state-of-the-art and able to meet the needs of the citizens of the Bangalore region. This health centre has only been open for a few months, but has already proved to be a centre of excellence for the treatment of many diseases, and we at Health and Development are happy to have contributed to its further improvement.

Our synergy with the Sneha Charitable Trust, the initiator of these initiatives, does not end with these projects, but rather aims to be even closer, in the hope of being able to carry out even more activities with the aim of enhancing the accommodation and healthcare capacity of Snehadaan Hospital.

THE SOLIDARITY CHRISTMAS OF SALUTE E SVILUPPO

The Christmas season is just around the corner, but the initiatives of 2023 are not yet over, and there is a way to continue supporting us: on 28 November the annual Christmas market will be held at the CRAL degli Operatori Socio Sanitari del Rhodense exhibition centre, with a wide selection of Christmas gifts and home accessories, all handmade with lots of love and imagination by our volunteers.

It will be the ideal opportunity to support our initiatives and to discover the world of Salute e Sviluppo, which is enriched with new activities every year. It will be easy to discover them all thanks to the Salute e Sviluppo 2024 calendar: 12 colourful months each dedicated to one of the projects we inaugurated and followed during 2023.

There will also be our iconic pencils with marigold seeds at the top: a symbol of solidarity that can always flourish thanks to sustainable development projects and continued commitment. All proceeds from this day will go to our missions in the Central African Republic and Burkina Faso, two of the poorest countries in the world, which constantly require care and attention.

We have the will to pursue our fundamental mission: to improve the living conditions of all those who are in the greatest difficulty! We can do this thanks to the help of our volunteers and the generosity of all those who have decided and will decide to approach our cause.

If you would also like to support us, visit us in Rho or otherwise write to us at info@salutesviluppo.it or on our social channels, we will always be happy to answer you and welcome you into the world of Salute e Sviluppo!

THE NEW BEDS AT THE CHANTABURI RETIREMENT HOME

The ‘Bed Replacement for the Chanthaburi Rest Home – Camillian Social Centre’ project run by the Camillian delegation in Thailand has just ended. The home houses 120 elderly people, some of whom pay a modest fee, while others receive medical care completely free of charge.

On 1 August, we decided to inaugurate this project following the request of Fr. Renato Attrezzi, Director of the centre, who told us of the absolute urgency of proceeding with the replacement of the beds of the 120 in-patients, which had not only become too old and uncomfortable, but were also no longer functional for the medical staff, having also rusted due to the humid climate of the area.

We welcomed the request of Fr. Attrezzi and we found in the Cav. Silvano Pedrollo a valuable supporter of the initiative: thanks to his generosity we were able to purchase most of the requested beds, which have just been installed in the centre.

We at Salute e Sviluppo are very happy to have contributed to the success of this operation and look forward to continuing to collaborate with this reality in support of the centre’s activities for the most fragile.

ALONGSIDE THE DAIVALAYAM- ST. CAMILLUS ASHRAM

We have recently started the ‘Project for the structural needs of Daivalayam – St. Camillus Ashram, Hyderabad’: we are still in India and, again in synergy with the Camillian Province and the Sneha Charitable Trust, we have decided to contribute to the realisation of all the structural improvements necessary for this medical centre.

The Daivalayam – St. Camillus Ashram is the only health centre of excellence in the entire Hyderabad region, dedicated to children from 3 to 18 years of age with physical and mental disabilities who need special care and help. Daivalayam means ‘Dwelling Place of God’, a name chosen to emphasise care and respect for these little patients.

Over the years, the centre has been able to accommodate up to 30 children and young people, but now the need has arisen to expand the facility to also accommodate those who, after the age of 18, continue to need care and assistance. The project includes the construction of several more rooms for both patients and the specialised medical staff who constantly follow the children on their rehabilitation journey.

In order to further expand the capacity of the centre, road connections need to be improved: Daivalayam is located in an area that is quite difficult to reach with few roads connecting it to neighbouring towns and, in the rainy season, these roads flood and are difficult to navigate. The project aims to improve the existing connections and to create a drainage system that allows water to drain efficiently from the roads.

Many of the guests at the centre have severe disabilities so they are forced to use wheelchairs, but the outside of the facility is not built to suit their needs. The project also aims to resurface the outdoor paving, so that all patients can spend days outside in complete safety, even with a wheelchair.

In order to safeguard the health of the patients in every respect, Daivalayam also wants to make the land around the facility cultivable, so that the guests can be offered the genuine and healthy products of the earth grown on site.

We at Health and Development are very happy to be able to contribute to the realisation of all these works, which over the next six months will be completed and will make the lives of the children and young people at the centre a little easier and more peaceful.

RECYCLED WATER FOR SNEHADAAN HOSPITAL

Last week we told you about the recently inaugurated project concerning the purchase of an ambulance and dialysis equipment for the Snehadaan Hospital in Bangalore, India, but this is not the only activity that we at Salute e Sviluppo have decided to carry out in favour of the new Camillian hospital.

Again in synergy with the Sneha Charitable Trust, from this week a new three-month project will start that will see us in the front line to finance the construction of a rainwater well and a wastewater treatment plant: all that water that has already been used, for domestic or industrial use, needs specific treatment to be used safely again.

All our activities are designed to be sustainable and in line with the principles of the UN 2030 Agenda. Water – in particular – has been the focus of many of our projects, all designed to emphasise the weight and importance that this element has for human life and for the wellbeing of the individual, who must have safe access to this fundamental source. Recycling water and treating it appropriately so that it can be reused within the hospital itself is our goal, to reaffirm once again our commitment to our planet and the importance of this element.

In September, when the project is completed, both the well and the treatment plant will be completed and fully functional and available to the hospital. We are very happy to be able to contribute to the achievement of this goal in line with our values, always standing by the Camillians at Snehadaan Hospital.
