Salute e Sviluppo, an NGO with many years of experience in design and management of socio-economic development projects, launched the three-year project in May 2014. \u201cPromote the access to drinking water and basic sanitation for the population of Karungu Division, Kenya”, <\/strong>thanks to funding from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation Access to drinking water is a preliminary prerequisite condition, both for the effectiveness of health interventions and for local economic development. Lack of water causes a staggering unhealthy rate that causes disease and stops development. In Karungu people live below the poverty line.<\/strong> The proximity to Lake Victoria has fostered addiction to unhealty contaminated water In order to improve sanitation conditions of the local population, we have created a model of ozone water treatment never before implemented in Kenya,<\/strong>thus reducing the bacterial load in it.<\/p>\n

The water system we have created is spread over a length of about 5 km and is divided into 5 water kiosks,<\/strong> managed by management groups at schools and meeting points. In addition, 48 basic sanitation facilities have been built in local primary and secondary schools.<\/strong> To raise the awareness of the local communities on the importance of using healthy water, we have also organized intense awareness campaigns and health education.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to the project:<\/p>\n

\u2022 over 30,000 people can finally drink clean water<\/strong>
\n \u2022 more than 3.000 students have access to primary sanitation services<\/strong>
\n \u2022 over 25.000 people got to understand the importance and the rlationship between clean water and healty life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
